Family Outings
One of the joys of growing up is trips with the family. But the years rush forward, tumbling over themselves to the point where it is sometimes hard to remember which year was which, or exactly how old one was when a photo was taken. This one, on a trip to Chicago's Brookfield Zoo (Dad behind the camera again)was, considering my relative height to Mom, probably was 1944 or 1945.

You're really cute in this photo, Dorien-san ! :)
You must have been quite popular among girls ( and maybe boys, too ? ) ! ;)
But...it makes me think about how ordinary the life in America in 1944 and 1945 was when compared to the life in Japan during those dark times.
Not many Japanese people would have been able to enjoy themselves during those times, going to cinemas, zoos, museums, etc. too busy fighting their enemies both inside and outside the country. Sad...but true.
But I am so glad that people on both sides are friends today - just like you and me. :)
Love,
Chie Minato
